Crow Pass
Girdwood to Anchorage, Alaska
This trip can be done as a long day trip or as a
two or three day backpacking trip.
It is a spectacular hike and is very close to home. The trail is a portion
of the historic Ididarod trail that went from Seward to Nome. It goes up
and over a high pass before dropping back down into narrow valleys with
wonderful views of glaciers. The route requires the wading of three stream
crossings, the greatest being the Eagle River, with water temperatures only a
few degrees above freezing.
The length of the trip varies depending on who you talk to. Most estimates put the length at 26 miles, others as low as 22 miles. Maybe it depends on whether or not you take short cuts!
